The Washington Wizards returned to action on Sunday against a fast-paced Detroit Pistons squad. Washington fell short at home in front of the Capital One Arena crowd and now Brian Keefe's squad sits at 2-10 on the season.

Despite the loss, the Wizards managed to get their first glimpse of Malcolm Brogdon in a Wizards uniform. The big offseason acquisition returned to action after a little over a month of recovery time from a preseason injury the guard suffered during a practice with his new team.

In the loss, Brogdon struggled as he continues to work out the early season rust that he was unable to shake off throughout the preseason. Nonetheless, the veteran was able to get back on the floor for the Wizards which is the most important part, especially as the Wizards season continues to get out of hand.

That said, with his return to the floor, it's only fair to grade his debut as we have with other big Wizards additions.

Malcolm Brogdon's return to action against Pistons was lackluster

Malcolm Brogdon returned against the Pistons, but his presence on the court was unfelt. The Virginia product averaged finish his Wizards debut with one of the ugliest stat lines he could have asked for. Brogdon's night ended with one point, two rebounds and one turnover while shooting 0/4 on field goal attempts, including missing his only three point attempt on the evening.

Although his first game with the Wizards threads on didn't go to plan, his perfromance on the court isn't the main reason why general manager Will Dawkins opted to hold onto the veteran after acquiring him in a draft night deal that sent away former lottery pick Deni Avdija,

The Wizards held onto the vet for his leadership skills and his time in the league with the hopes of him being able to mentor their young backcourt. With players like Carlton Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George and even Jordan Poole to an extent, there's plenty of room to grow for each player there. And the hope is that Brogdon can help his teammates get to that point while he is in D.C.

Nonetheless, there still had to be a grade for the guard's debut and honesty is the best policy. Considering he is returning from injury, there will be some wiggle room for his returning grade. But in all honesty, the hope is Brogdon can give the Wizards more promising minutes in the future.

Grade: D+
