When you think of the best players to ever suit up for the Washington Wizards, there's no doubt that John Wall comes to mind.

The former No. 1 overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft spent the majority of his NBA career in Washington; the place he built a legacy.

In 9 years with the Wizards, Wall set records, gave fans hope and did everything he possibly could to put the DMV on the map.

Despite never reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, what the five-time Wizards' All-Star accomplished throughout his tenure in D.C. will forever leave him with a special place in fans hearts.

In fact, Washington's fanbase was given the chance to prove just how much they appreiate the contributions of the former star during their recent matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, where the organization hosted a John Wall Celebration night.

Not only did the Wizards' young core honor the Kentucky product with a win over the Bucks, but they gave both Wall and the fans a glimpse into the future showcasing exactly what general manager Will Dawkins and President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger are building in Washington.

Wall made it very clear what he saw from the team's young core and took the chance to praise his former squad and the direction they're headed in.

Ahead of his celebratory night, Wall gave his honest opinion on the Amazon Prime broadcast about the direction the Wizards are heading in and what's being built in Washington.

“You gotta start by getting great pieces in the draft," Wall said. "The young core they got now, they’re playing the right way. They’re trying to figure out how to win. It’s gonna be very exciting.”

For years, Washington has been viewed as the laughing stock of the NBA with their constant struggles and inability to break the cycle of mediocrity that they've been tied to for nearly the last decade.

However, all signs point to the Wizards finally making strides to break that constant cycle and although their current 13-35 record may not exactly scream that Washington's a team on the rise, all indications suggest otherwise.

With rising star Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George emerging to be building blocks for the Wizards, mixed with the recent growth from rookie sensation Tre Johnson, all signs are pointing up.

And that's not even factoring in the acquisition of four-time All-Star Trae Young, who's yet to suit up for the Wizards.

With Wall encouraged by what he's seeing his former team build, it's safe to say fans should be encouraged too.
