Former Washington Wizards star and current NBA analyst for Amazon Prime has taken on a new job as the President of Basketball Operations at Howard University.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Wall is returning to the DMV to take on a new role within the HBCU:
"Five-time NBA All-Star John Wall has become the president of basketball operations at Howard, returning to Washington to partner with the top-ranked HBCU in the country, school officials told ESPN," Charania reported early Thursday morning.
The role for Wall certainly comes out of the blue, but given his next-level basketball IQ, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone to see him find himself in an executive role this early after his retirement.
There's no telling exactly how long Wall will stay put at Howard, but it's definitely one major step forward to a potential reunion with the Wizards.
John Wall could eventually land a job in Wizards' front office
Wall was selected as the top pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, and it's fair to say, the Kentucky product embodied exactly what it meant to be a Wizard.
The star guard represented the city proudly during his entire run in D.C., and he's to thank for some of the team's most memorable playoff runs in recent years.
Still, after an injury riddled backhalf of his career eventually led the playmaker to retirement, the 35-year-old was quickly forced to decide what came next after his playing career came to an end.
After a brief stint as an analyst for NBA on Prime Video, the basketball mind opted to take on a more difficult challenge, looking to help reshape the program at Howard University.
This challenge could be a learning curve for the former No. 1 overall selection, but it could also be the step needed to eventually earn a spot in the front office for the team he spent the majority of his career with.
Wall would be the perfect compliment to Will Dawkins
There's no doubt that President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger and general manager Will Dawkins have become one of the best front office dynamics in the league after their impressive moves over the last couple of seasons.
Washington is always looking for talent, though, and it doesn't always have to come via roster additions.
Wall would be the perfect former NBA mind for Dawkins to bounce ideas off of, and if he's successful in his role at Howard, there's no reason why he couldn't quickly find a spot with the Wizards if he wanted to.
