John Wall announced his retirement from the NBA moving on to his next career as an NBA Analyst for Amazon Prime.
At 34, the former No. 1 overall pick is forced to leave his playing days in the past after injuries derailed his career.
Despite his career being cut short, his legacy will live on as he will forever be known as one of the best players to ever suit up for the Washington Wizards.
With Wall setting the bar high for incoming guards in the future, it turns all eyes on Tre Johnson who many feel could be the next best guard to suit up in the DMV.
Johnson was selected with the No. 6 overall pick, and while many still will look back on this offseason as the time Washington missed out on Cooper Flagg, many feel fortunate to have the former Texas star as the consolation prize, especially considering they fell out of the top five in the NBA Draft as a whole.
The explosive scorer has every tool needed to be a star in this league and there's no doubt about it.
Not only is the 6-foot-6 guard one of the most talented scorers not only in this draft class, but the league as a whole now.
The guard can put the ball in the basket at will and he's able to do it efficiently. Whether he's creating his own offense with the ball in his hand or he's playing off the ball cutting back door and curling around screens, Johnson can do it all at a high level.
There's plenty to love about the incoming rookies' game, and while expectations are already high, the retirement of Wall before the season only adds to fans hope that Johnson could be their next backcourt pick to emerge as a star.
If Johnson hits, he could be the next player to make a strong argument to have his jersey hung in the rafter when it's all said and done.
However, if he doesn't hit, he'll be yet another swing and miss from a Wizards organization who has struggled immensely to hit on lottery picks over the last decade not named Wall or Bradley Beal.
Regardless, with Wall leaving the game behind him, Wizards fans who spent majority of their fandom cheering on the former All-Star guard will hope that Johnson can bring similar excitement to the team they love.
