The Phoenix Suns made headlines on Sunday morning with the blockbuster move to send 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.

For months, the writing was on the wall for a Durant deal to be completed at some point this offseason.

After the Suns head coaching search ended with the hiring of Cleveland Cavalier assistant coach Jordan Ott, Phoenix turned their attention to the roster with moving Durant ahead of the NBA Draft as their primary focus,

After weeks of trade discussions, Durant made it clear that he would not waver in his pursuit of dictating his next team which took the leverage out of the Suns' hands.

As a result, the Washington native was dealt to the Rockets in exchange for a package that many believe the Suns came out on the losing side.

The Suns current roster construction following the deal leaves many question marks ahead of the NBA Draft.

Not only does Phoenix have a surplus of guards in their backcourt after acquiring Jalen Green, but their lack of a presence in the front court makes it hard to believe that the Suns will be close to competing for a high seed in a loaded Western Conference next season, especially after moving the team's leading scorer.

But what does this have to do with the Wizards? Glad you asked.

Washington currently owns the right to a first-round pick swap with the Phoenix Suns in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Assuming Washington doesn't let it convey and the Wizards finish with a top 8 pick in next year's NBA Draft Lottery, which many expect to happen, they could theoretically have two chances at winning the sweepstakes for the No. 1 overall pick and AJ Dybantsa if the Suns finish as a lottery team.

Obviously, a lot has to happen for Phoenix to have another poor season, but with how the last two seasons have gone for the Suns, it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities that they could have another troublesome year ahead.

If the Wizards are able to somehow be in the position where they are able to swap picks with the Suns next offseason following the NBA Draft, Durant could be doing his hometown team a solid without ever suiting up in a Wizards jersey.

Only time will tell how this trade unfolds, but as of now, the Wizards could be one of the biggest winners from this offseason domino.
