There's no denying that the Washington Wizards are a ways away from contending for an NBA championship.
However, as the team continues to build towards the future, it's important for the Wizards to find the right pieces of the puzzle to put themselves in position to compete for a postseason spot and beyond.
Washington is currently in a prime position to land a top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft as they sit at the bottom of the standings with a league-worst 15-55 record. If the team manages to land the No. 1 overall pick, they''ll have the possibility to draft the top prospect in a class expected to be filled with multiple top talents including Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe.
Although Flagg's future is still uncertain, the slight possibility he could be available for the Wizards at No. 1 is enough for the team and their fanbase to be excited about earning the top pick.
Aside from that, Washington has already gotten a head start and finding the right pieces to compete in the Eastern Conference in the near future. With the likes of former lottery picks Bilal Coulibaly, Alex Sarr and Bub Carrington.
And while these young players are certainly a strong starting point for the rebuild, the Wizards have also done a good job accumulating glue players on the core such as Kyshawn George.
Kyshawn George will have important role in Wizards future
George was drafted with the No. 24 overall pick in the first-round of the NBA Draft last offseason. The Miami product entered the league with little to no expectations. However, the 21-year-old playmaker has quickly showed his versatility and why he will be so important to the team moving forward.
At 6-foot-8, George has the size to defend opposing team's wings, but the quickness and agility to defend guards as well. Offensively, the forward has struggled shooting at the next level, but he's shown flashes of the same knockdown shooting he showed glimpses of in college.
However, what he can do on the court is arguably the last of many reasons why he will be important to the Wizards future. Instead, the reason the forward is so important for Washington is mainly due to his focus on winning, regardless of what role he has.
George only cares about winning, and he's willing to accept whatever role the team needs him in on any given night, as long as it ends in a win for his team. Between his versatility and willingness to accept a role, he serves as the perfect glue player for a winning team.
