22-year-old Washington Wizards wing Kyshawn George has been one of the hottest players in the NBA since the start of November. For outsiders, that's a shocking development. For the Wizards, however, it's simply a reminder that AJ Dybantsa isn't the only star they're developing.
In his latest game, George went off in a way that acted to show Washington that they have an All-Star type of raw talent just waiting to be featured.
George finished the Wizards' Nov. 6 clash with the Atlanta Hawks with 33 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. He shot 10-of-19 from the field and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc while also burying eight of his 10 free throw attempts.
Though George set a season-high in points, it was by no means an unexpected development relative to what he'd done in the games and even seasons leading up to it.
For instance: George opened November with 22 points and five assists on 9-of-15 shooting in a win over the Orlando Magic. He followed that performance with 25 points and seven assists against Atlanta on Nov. 4. Two games prior, George had 11 assists. He scored at least 20 points in each of the two games before that.
With 20-plus points in five of his past seven games and a history of flashing star potential, George is looking like the franchise cornerstone outsiders may not realize he can be.
Kyshawn George drops season-high 33 points against the Hawks
For those who only started watching the Wizards once Anthony Davis and Trae Young arrived, George is coming out of nowhere. For those who have been watching them over the past three seasons, however, George's ascension is none too surprising.
Between his rookie season and his sophomore campaign, for instance, he increased his production by 6.1 points and 2.0 assists while improving his shooting from .372/.322/.753 to .438/.381/.802.
Injuries ultimately limited George to 48 games played in 2025-26, but his leap was impressive nevertheless. Even if he hadn't made drastic progress, averages of 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.9 blocks, and 2.1 threes are tough to ignore—particularly from a second-year player.
Still just 22 years of age, George appears to be making the next leap on his road to stardom as he puts together one of the best scoring stretches of his career thus far.
Kyshawn George has been building toward a star leap for several years
George scored a career-high 34 points in 2025-26 and mustered 11 20-point games in 48 appearances. He scored at least 15 points in 25 of his 48 games played. He did so while making plays as a passer and defender, and maintaining a strong presence on the glass.
Now healthy and surrounded by an improved cast of teammates, George is showcasing the potential that Wizards fans knew he had.
Moving forward, Dybantsa and George as a perimeter pairing may very well be the key to the Wizards not only ending a postseason drought, but sustaining success. Both are gifted offensive players and each have the potential for excellence on defense.
George may not have the same name value as his high-profile teammates, but it's time for outsiders to pay attention to how legitimate his star potential is.
