The Washington Wizards roster is guarenteed to look completely different at the start of the 2025-26 season than it did in April's season finale against the Miami Heat.
Washington has made an abundance of moves to rehsape the roster between the trade market, NBA Draft and free agency.
The Wizards let veterans like Marcus Smart, Richaun Holmes and newly acquired Blake Wesley hit the open market after buying out their contracts and they brought back a familiar face through free agency in Marvin Bagley III.
Looking at all the moves from general manager Will Dawkins this offseason, it became abundantly clear where things were headed on the Malcolm Brogdon front.
And as the offseason continues to unfold, Brogdon's situation with the Wizards has become crystal clear.
Brogdon won't return to Washington
The writing was on the wall when the offseason began, but with how the offseason has unfolded it's all but confirmed that Brogdon's time in Washington has come to an end.
Washington landed the veteran guard last offseason in hopes that the Virginia product would be a mentor for the team's young core this season.
However, after the injuries limited the playmaker's time on the court, the team's hope for what he could provide quickly became limited.
Brogdon couldn't stay on the court to provide mentorship and without his ability to do that, the team's need to keep him around all but diminished.
As a result, entering the offseason it became increasingly clear that the Wizards would not be in the market to bring the former Sixth Man of the Year back to Washington.
And with how lackluster the market has looked for Brogdon over the last couple of months, it's all but confirmed the Wizards lack of interest proves a return to the DMV is unlikely.
The Wizards likely could have worked a deal out with Brogdon by this point of the offseason and help the veteran find a preferred landing spot for him ahead of the trade deadline in February.
Nonetheless, the Wizards opted not to do that, but instead move forward with McCollum being the new veteran addition in the backcourt.
Now, Brogdon will likely find his next team when the dust settles from the top free agents such as Jonathan Kuminga, Josh Giddey and Ben Simmons.
As for Washington, they'll move forward in their rebuild prioritizing the development of the young players on the roster.
