The Washington Wizards haven't been afraid to pull the trigger on big trades and they've proven that over the last few years.
In fact, Washington's front office filled with President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger and general manager Will Dawkins' have combined to make the Wizards one of the most active teams on the trade market as of late.
Between their offseason addition of CJ McCollum and eventual blockbuster trade for four-time All-Star Trae Young, Washington has remained in the headlines.
The Trae Young trade itself is the move that raised eyebrows on the current state of the team's build and added plenty of questions that the team's front office executives would be tasked to answer.
Are the Wizards eyeing a playoff push next season?
Are more blockbuster trades on the horizon?
Is Bub Carrington's time in Washington coming to an end?
All valid questions that deserved to be answered and while time will tell, Michael Winger took the time to answer one of the biggest looming questions of all in a recent interview.
The question: Where do the Wizards stand in their rebuild after the Trae Young addition?
Michael Winger gives Wizards' rebuild update post Trae Young addition
In a recent interview, Winger was asked about the addition of the star guard and where the team stands in their current phase of the rebuild.
“We think acquiring a 4-time All-Star in his prime was a hell of an acquisition for us, but we [as an organization] are not hitting a gas pedal,” Winger said.
It's hard to imagine that Washington's not looking to make win-now moves considering the fact the team took a swing on Young after his decision to list the team as his preferred landing spot.
However, Washington doesn't have to be pressing the gas pedal per se just to be ready to make big acquisitions when the opportunity presents itself.
No, the Wizards aren't looking to make win-now moves and they won't be a team pushing to acquire every player available with the hope to contend now.
Nonetheless, Washington will do their due-diligence when the opportunity presents itself and if there's a way for the team to add a premiere talent at an extremely discounted price like they did with Young and even Cam Whitmore, they'll do it.
The Wizards aren't constructed to make noise in the Eastern Conference just yet, but they're certainly a team on the rise that will be a force to be reckoned with in due time.
