The Washington Wizards have all eyes on them ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February for a variety of reasons.
Not only has Washington proven to be one of the most aggressive teams on the trade market over the last few years, but with the team's recent blockbuster trade to acquire four-time All-Star Trae Young, eyebrows raised about just how aggressive the Wizards planned to be ahead of this season's deadline.
Aside from the obvious tool at their disposal with Khris Middleton's expiring contract. mixed with the additional assets at hand with young prospects and draft capital at their disposal, Washington finds themselves with the financial flexibility to make yet another bold move if they choose.
In fact, the team has 45 million reasons to take another swing if the right opportunity presents itself.
At the same time, the team's projected $45 million cap space could be saved to use this offseason, if the team were to believe an aggressive approach to free agency could position them to get one step closer to the ulrimate goal of contending in the East.
Considering the team's recent ties to the pending free agency of big man Walker Kessler, there's no doubt that a big offseason could be in store for Washington.
However, when President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger was asked about the team's possibility of using their cap space to be aggressive this offseason, the team's decision-maker made it clear that no door has been closed on any potential moves.
Michael Winger shares intriguing update on Wizards' cap space
In a recent interview, Winger revealed that the Wizards looming cap space may not make it to the offseason leaving plenty of room for speculation to increase ahead of the deadline.
“We’re not necessarily hitting the gas pedal," Winger said. "Whatever we do with that cap space - it might evaporate in the next two weeks, we just don’t know.”
There's no doubt that with the recent rumors about the Wizards' potential to make another splash on the trade market, all eyes are on Washington; especially with the ongoing Jonathan Kuminga saga in Golden State and rumblings about a Zion Williamson trade being a possibility.
Regardless if the team opts to make a move or not, it's clear that Washington's front office won't rule anything out when it comes to exploring every avenue to improve their roster moving forward.
Until then, all eyes remain on the Wizards.
