Ranking Alex Sarr's top 3 games through the start of the season
By John Canady
The Washington Wizards start to the season has been every bit of disappointing through the first two weeks. Sitting at 2-11, it's clear the Wizards have little to no chance competing in a stacked Eastern Confereence this season.
However, the team has managed to use their rough start to get the chance to analyze the progress of their young players. And one player the team has closeley monitored the development of is reigning No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr.
The big man entered the season with high expectations being picked near the top of the NBA Draft in the offseason. Following his rough Summer League outing, the big man bounced back in the Wizards preseason games showing he has what it takes to contribute at the next level. And through the start of the season, he's shown that to be true.
That said, here's a look at his top three games to start the season.
3) Modest outing against Atlanta (10/30)
Against the Atlanta Hawks, Sarr has shown his ability on both sides of the court this season. In each of his matchups vs ATL, the rookie has shown out. In this matchup, the 19-year-old finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists. In addition, the big man added four blocks and one steal on the defensive end.
A sign of what he's capable of early with the long season ahead.
2) Two-way dominance vs. Miami (11/2)
In Sarr's first matchup against Bam Adebayo, the French product seemed to rise to the occassion putting toegther one of the best performances in his young career up to date, The 7-foot forward finished the matchup with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists, while shooting 63.6% from field goal range (7/11).
Not only was the versatile rookie exceptional on the offensive end, but he showed his ability as an elite defender with four blocks in the win.
1) Career night vs. Hawks (11/15)
In the Wizards most recent battle with the Hawks, Sarr went off for a career-night showcasing his growing confidence and comfortability with his new team. The playmaker ended a dominant night with 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while shooting 53.8% (7/13 FG) from field goal range and 75% from beyond the arc. (3/4 3PT).
Although his offensive performance was impressive alone, his defensive prescense may have been the most eye opening. Sarr finished with three blocks and four steals showing just how impactful he can be defensively.
While these three games are just a small sample size, it should be a welcoming sight for Wizards fans who have high hopes for their young player.
