The Washington Wizards have started the season off even worse than anyone could have imagined after a retooling offseason.
Following the team's loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday night, the Wizards have fallen to 3-21 on the year as they continue to lead the odds to earn the top overall pick this coming offseason. And while Washington fans may consider that alone to be a win, there's no denying that this struggling season takes a toll on both the players and the fanbase of the Wizards.
The Wizards' rough start to the season couldn't get any worse. Washington can't seem to buy a win whether they're on their home court or on a road trip. However, this bizarre stat alone tells the story of just how bad the Wiz have been this season.
The Celtics have won more games in D.C. this season than the Wizards
The Celtics and the Wizards have matched up quite a few times through the course of this season. While Washington has both hosted the C's and traveled to Boston, they've yet to find a way to defeat the defending champions this season regardless of where they play.
However, to make matters worse, the Celtics have officially won more games this season in Capital One Arena than the Wizards who play their full-time. Following last night's loss, Washington fell to 2-11 in their home arena up to this point of the season. Meanwhile, the Celtics are 3-0 on the road in D.C. just this season alone.
There's not enough words to explain how bad this stat is, but the biggest and most obvious word to explain it is embarrassing. It's an absolute embarassment to the franchise, the fans that support them, and the city the team represents on their chest on a nightly basis.
In the NBA, it's hard to win against any team, especially to do it consistently, there's no doubt about it. However, these players on the roster are still among the most talented players in the world. The worst part about their lack of success this year is it hasn't seemed like it is from a lack of talent, but more-so a lack of effort.
Reports surfaced that the team is internally dealing with their historically rough start, but up to this point, the hope for the team turning it around doesn't seem to be much.
Nonetheless, the Wizards will have a chance to get back in the column on Thursday against the Charlotte Hornets.
