Trae Young's arrival in the DMV quickly offered excitement about what the future holds for the Washington Wizards.
Shortly after the acquisition of Young, the blockbuster trade for Anthony Davis added to the excitement about thoughts of just how good the superstar duo of Young and AD could be.
The idea of the two superstars in D.C. at this time last year would have sounded like a pipe dream, but at this point, it's clear dreams are attainable.
Nonetheless, following Young's long-awaited debut on Thursday, it's clear that the potential duo alongside Davis isn't the only pairing fans should be excited about.
And after hearing Young's comments on standout rookie Tre Johnson, it's clear that the backcourt duo Washington's recent moves have formed could play a pivotal role in the team's success moving forward.
Trae Young praises Tre Johnson
Young's debut in Washington on Thursday wasn't just the start of a new era for the guard and Wizards basketball, but it was a glimpse into the future.
Post game, it was clear just how impressed the 27-year-old is with the team's sharpshooting rook:
"Tre [Johnson] is an unbelievable shooter but he does more than just shoot," Young said. "The future is bright"
Early on, it showed the chemistry potential between Young and Johnson, with head coach Brian Keefe's backcourt weapons seemingly working alongside one another seamlessly, especially in their first game together,
The team's new backcourt combined for 27 points in the loss, and while there's plenty more potential for better performances in the future, for the first of many games, there's certainly a lot to be thrilled about for fans.
Johnson has plenty of room to grow
Young making it clear that Johnson doesn't more than just shoot should be music to both the fans and the front office's ears.
It's easy to get lost in just how good of a shooter he is, and while that's certainly one of the guard's biggest strengths, there's much more to like about the Texas product's game.
Johnson is tremendous off ball, understanding when to curl, cut to the basket and move to refrain from the court getting clogged in certain sets.
Beyond that, his ability to crash the board and playmake when given the opportunity is underrated.
Not to mention, he's a crafty finisher around the rim.
Johnson will be a major key for Washington moving forward and the fact that Young understands that is already a great sign.
