Trae Young is set to lead the Washington Wizards into a new era of basketball in the nation's capital and he's expected to be the player to truly lead the new movement in the DMV.

For years, the star guard has been considered one of the best playmakers in the league, but he's also gathered a reputation as one of the most overrated players in the league.

Many would argue that the label fits Young like a glove, while others would say that anyone calling him overrated is simply just a hater, especially after his classic playoff performance against the New York Knicks a few years back.

Regardless, a fresh start in Washington seemed to be. his chance to prove he can shake that unfair label he was previously plagued with.

Fast forward to now, with NBA Players recently voting on the most overrated player in the league, it's clear that Young carries over that weight to his new squad in the DMV.

Trae Young voted as one of the most overrated players in the NBA

According to a recent article from The Athletic's Annual Player Poll, Young was voted as one of the most overrated players in the league despite barely seeing the floor between his time with the Atlanta Hawks and Wizards this season.

Young not coming in at No. 1 on the list is a pleasant surprise, but considering he's the highest voted guard on the list, it seems like somewhat of a shot.

The newest Wizards' playmaker did show some signs of struggles before departing from Atlanta, but after his random trade away from the Hawks' organization, it's safe to say that part of those issues could have stemmed from a fractured relationship between the guard and the Hawks' front office.

In Washington, though, Young is perfectly positioned to not only prove his critics wrong but also remove the label from himself completely.

That is, if he even wants the label removed.

Young thrives on disrespect

Some players in the league worry about public perception, while others allow for criticism to fuel them.

Young happens to fall in the select few of the players who seem to use doubt and criticism as a way to play better.

Obviously, with the guard now leading the charge for a rebuilding team, who's widely expected to ink him to a long-term contract extension this offseason, he'll be even more in a position to receive negativity.

Despite that, this is the perfect opportunity for the Oklahoma product to shake his overrated label and prove he's the player the Wizards traded for him to be.
