The Washington Wizards' offseason has been flooded with more negatives than positives, and we're only a few weeks from the regular season finale.

Washington has been forced to deal with constant comments from Anthony Davis, followed by rumblings that a trade could be on the horizon in the coming months.

And while negative news should never be ignored, there are more positives than negatives when it comes to the months ahead for the Wizards.

For starters, Washington has the opportunity to land a top prospect in the 2026 NBA Draft, and the possibility to add a top pick to an already talented roster is rare.

Beyond that, the comments from Marc Stein on SiriusXM NBA Radio suggest an extension for Trae Young could be in the works.

Wizards and Trae Young have discussed an extension

We're early into the offseason, and although an extension for Young was mentioned shortly after he arrived in the DMV, it's good to know there's at least one star who's willing to buy into what general manager Will Dawkins is building in D.C.

The Wizards haven't had an All-Star on the roster in several years, and it's been even longer since the team's fanbase felt that the NBA Playoffs were a real possibility.

Now, with Young in the picture, it feels like Washington is finally beginning to stack pieces that could elevate their rebuild.

In his small sample size of games with the Wizards down the stretch, it was easy to feel the impact that the All-Star guard has on his new squad, even if the minutes were brief.

Young seems excited to lead a surging squad, and it feels like Washington finally has a star who's willing to be involved in the long-term plans after all.

Obviously, the numbers to any Young extension will be important, but considering the situation the Wizards are in, inking the playmaker to a long-term deal seems like the top of the team's to-do list this summer.

And while the future of Young in Washington may not seem important to some, it could be the difference in just how soon the Wizards turn things around.

Washington finally has a way to lure additional talent

For years, attracting talent to Washington was extremely difficult, even for talents like John Wall and Bradley Beal.

Things in D.C. seem to be different now, and that's with the uncertainty regarding Anthony Davis' future.

With Young, though, Washington has a talented guard who's proven to elevate the players around him, an extremely talented young core, and the assets to continue shaping their roster moving forward.

The Wizards are on the rise, and landing Young to lead the movement is the good news the fanbase desperately needed.
