The Washington Wizards start to the regular season couldn't have gotten off to a worst start.
Washington's defensive struggles to slow down the Milwaukee Bucks shooting from deep put the Wizards in a hole early that caused head coach Brian Keefe to immediately look for a spark from his bench early on.
The Wizards early offensive struggles from the starters not named Khris Middleton added to their lapses on defense and quickly the Wizards found themselves down by double digits.
However, through it all, Washington managed to find some positives in the rough start to the season.
That positive goes by the name of Tre Johnson.
The reigning No. 6 overall pick came off the bench in his rookie debut with the Wizards, but it took him only 10 minutes to prove not only that Washington's front office made the right decision to draft him with their top overall pick this offseason, but that he may not be coming off the bench for long.
Johnson took no tim eto show exactly why the Wizards selected him with their top pick and immediately placed high expectations on the incoming guard.
In 10 minutes of play, the Texas product knocked down 4/6 field goal attempts, including 3/4 from beyond the arc adding up to 11 points off the bench for Washington.
The first-year man found himself as the leading scorer for Washington at halftime against the Bucks and along the way he added the first of many highlight series of his young career with back-to-back triples showing just how impactful he's going to be in the DMV for years to come.
Although Johnson hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet, the early signs siggests that he's going to be a problem for the rest of the league for years to come, especially as he continues to adjust to the NBA game.
Johnson's first half is exactly what the fanbase hoped they'd see from their future building block to start the season and as his development continues and the Wizards roster changes, the playmaker may see himself inserted in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.
Regardless, as Johnson's confidence continues to improve and his feel for the game progresses, he's only going to get better.
Especially if he's able to improve the other areas of his game as a facilitator and a capable defender.
All that to say, it looks like the Wizards may have finally found their guy to build around.
