The Washington Wizards get their first taste of summer league action on Friday against the Phoenix Suns in Las Vegas.

Washington enters Vegas with arguably the most talented summer league roster considering the fact that the team may be sending out majority of Brian Keefe's rotation on the court.

Obviously, that goes to show just how young the team's roster is.

Most eyes will be on Alex Sarr in summer league after the former No. 2 overall pick put together a solid rookie campaign in Washington showcasing his elite defensive skillset.

In addition to Sarr, the team's top draft pick in Tre Johnson will be a main attraction for fans as they get the chance to see their first glimpse of the Texas standout in Wizards gear.

While Johnson's debut will be intriguing to breakdown, but all eyes should be on the future backcourt duo set to debut on Friday night.

Bub Carrington and Johnson have already shown flashes of great chemistry off the court through videos posted around the team's summer league practices.

On the court, their versatile skillsets could be the backcourt pairing that allows for Washington's rebuild to take off and take one step closer to competing in the Eastern Conference.

Dating back to the pairing of John Wall and Bradley Beal, it's been quite awhile since the Wizards and their fanbase have experienced a pair of dynamic players in the backcourt together.

Some may consider the pairing of Russell Westbrook and Beal the last time a backcourt duo in D.C. was elite, but with nothing to show for it, we'll look over that pairing.

Regardless, with Johnson and Carrington seemingly set to become the backcourt duo of the Wizards future, Friday's matchup against the Suns will be our first chance to see just how good these future running mates can be together.

Between Johnson's elite scoring ability and Carrington's all-around potential to be both an underrated scorer with his ability to get to the rim, but also be a willing facilitator with the ball in his hand, Washington's future could be somewhat dependent on how the two guards gel together moving forward.

Of course the development of Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Cam Whitmore and even AJ Johnson is also going to be a big course of summer league play. Not to mention other rookie additions in Will Riley and Jamir Watkins.

However, Johnson and Carrington could be exactly what this franchise needs to take the next step and with plenty of veteran guards on the roster to help mentor the duo, the future in D.C. is bright.
