The Washington Wizards have a lot of hope in their young core heading into the 2025 season.
Clearly, general manager Will Dawkins is making it a priority to stack young talent on the roster with the hopes of at least one prospect developing into the franchise player that allows for the Wizards to climb their way out of a constant loop of medicority.
Over the last few years, Washington's front office has done their part to find talented players. Between the likes of Bilal Coulibaly, Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George and even AJ Johnson, there's plenty of talent to be excited about in D.C. moving forward.
Not to mention newly acquired Cam Whitmore.
However, the one player that may bring the most excitement is the Wizards reigning No. 6 overall pick Tre Johnson.
Johnson showed us throughout Summer League what he has to offer and if he didn't put the league on notice then, the expectation is that he will as a rookie this season.
The Texas product has plenty to love about his game but arguably the one thing that he does better than any other prospect in the 2025 NBA Draft class is put the ball through the hoop.
The explosive guard can score at will in any spot on the court. Not only is he a knockdown shooter, but his athleticism and ability to get to the rim make him a nightmare to slow down for opposing teams.
With the ball in his hand, he's a tough player to stop. Furthermore, his off the ball movement is what truly elevates his game to another level.
Whether Johnson has the rock or he's simply cutting back door or fighting around screens, his IQ and ability to be a spot up shooter allows for the Wizards and Brian Keefe to think of a variety of ways to put him in position to succeed.
In fact, Johnson may lead the incoming rookie class in many areas this season, but the one area for sure that he could outperform top pick Cooper Flagg in his scoring.
Just ask ESPN Analyst Tim Legler who labels Johnson as an "absolute natural scorer" and feels that the Wizards guard knows what he wants to do every time the ball is in his hand.
Obviously, Johnson's success alone may not allow for the Wizards to stay in contention in the East, but it will provide a sense of hope that fans desperately need moving forward in this rebuilding process.
