Entering the offseason, the Washington Wizards main priority from both the front office and the fanbase was to find a way to land Cooper Flagg.

Flagg was largely looked at as the top prospect in the entire 2025 NBA Draft class and that proved to be true when his name was called as the No. 1 overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks on draft night.

Meanwhile, the Wizards were dealt with potentially the worst possible outcome after falling to the No. 6 overall pick in the NBA Draft order.

However, what could have been worst-case scenario was saved when Tre Johnson slid to the Wizards just outside of the top 5.

Johnson wasn't looked at to be on the same tier level as the likes of Flagg or Dylan Harper throughout the draft process, but the guard was considered as arguably the most explosive scorer in the entire draft after an impressive freshman season at Texas.

The guard quickly showed the promise the Wizards front office hoped to see in Summer League, averaging 19.5 points throughout summer play.

Following his impressive stint in preseason, the Wizards and their fanbase weren't the only ones to walk away from offseason play as fans of the explosive scorer.

David Jacoby revealed on a recent episode of The Ringer that of all the rookies not names Cooper Flagg, he'll have his eyes primarly on Tre Johnson during this coming season.

Jacoby made it clear that he has no interest in watching the Wizards play as a whole and he made it even more clear that that watching Alex Sarr last year was not on his to-do list.

However, with Johnson in Washington, Jacoby is excited to see him play NBA basketball against the top players in the league feeling that the guard was not only a great pick for the Wizards, but that his fit in D.C. is a great one.

Obviously, thoughts like these surrounding the Wizards young playmaker adds to the expectations for him heading into his rookie season, but if there were no expectations that simply means he would be doing something wrong.

Fortunately for both Johnson and the Wizards, the SEC product has seemed to flourish when the pressure is raised which could benefit him heading into next season.

Regardless, it's clear that because of Johnson, more eyes will be on the Wizards and their rebuild starting this season and moving forward.
