The Washington Wizards have high hopes for incoming rookie guard Tre Johnson.

It's hard not to be excited about the upside the former Texas star brings to the Wizards, especially looking at how dynamic of a scorer he was during his freshman season with the Longhorns.

Not only is Johnson an electric scorer with the ability to make any shot on the floor, but his next-level finishing around the rim, mixed with his act for getting to his spot at will makes him a nightmare to defend.

Whether he's creating his own shot with the ball in his hand or rolling off screens and finding a way to get open off the ball, Johnson will be an absolute weapon for the Wizards to utilize this coming season.

In fact, he could be the instant scoring replacement for Jordan Poole right away, especially if Brian Keefe prioritizes getting him the ball in a hurry.

However, while there's plenty to like about Johnson's game moving forward, there's no denying that the rookie has plenty of areas to address in order for him to take the next step.

For starters, Johnson's next-level scoring doesn't take away from the fact that if he's not able to improve his game as a playmaker, it could hinder how good of a player he could be.

Despite that, his will to improve adds confidence that his work ethic will allow for him to take the steps necessary to improve his game.

Though, even his weaknesses could be overlooked if he's able to master his offensive game as a scorer.

And with Johnson claiming that he's been watching film of both Kyrie Irving and Darius Garland entering his rookie season looking to improve his change of pace, Washington could have a superstar scorer on their hands sooner rather than later.

Irving and Garland have both proven to be some of the best guards in the NBA today and what they're able to do with the ball in their hands seperates them from players in the same position.

Not only are they nightmares to defend, but they're nightmares to scheme against because it's nearly impossible to do so.

Johnson looking to polish his game, even in areas he already thrives at makes his potential at the next level even more scary than it was when he was selected at No. 6 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Wizards' fans should be excited about Johnson's rookie season and the potential cornerstone the team has on their hands.
