The Washington Wizards could be losing a key piece to their coaching staff after recent reports that Adam Caporn is expected to draw consideration for the Phoenix Suns vacant head coaching job.
After the regular season came to an end, the Suns quickly moved to fire head coach Mike Budenholzer after one season as the team's head coach. Following yet another disappointing season for the team's star-studded roster.
Last offseason, the Suns disappointing end to the year resulted in head coach Frank Vogel losing his job there, who was quickly replaced by Budenholzer. However, less than a year later Phoenix finds themselves back to phase one and arguably an even worse situation heading into the offseason with the potential trades of Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal heavily being rumored.
That said, it's interesting to see how attractive of a destination Phoenix will be for potential head coaching candidates considering their tendency to fire head coaches after underperforming and the likeliness that the team has a completely different roster next season.
Are the Suns a true threat to steal Adam Caporn?
Caporn is a young and rising coaching candidate in the NBA. The Australian native was hired by the Washington Wizards to join Brian Keefe's staff as an assistant coach after he got the job in D.C. last offseason.
Coming from the Brooklyn Nets, Caporn quickly adjusted to life with the Wizards and impressed enough with his duties there that he was named the head coach to the Australian National team recently.
Although Caporn seemingly has a lot going for him, it's fair to wonder how likely a fit with the Suns really is?
Phoenix reportedly has multiple candidates on their radar and they're rumored to be targeting a young head coach or even a first-year coach to lead their roster in hopes of changing the culture around the team.
Some potential candidates that have been named outside of Caporn is James Borrego and Dave Joerger. Although Joerger doesn't exactly fit the criteria of young or first-year head coaches, he's experienced and more than capable of turning things around in Phoenix.
As for Borrego, he's a disciple of the Gregg Popovich coaching tree, which alone is something teams envy when going through the hiring process.
Outside of those known candidates, their will be plenty of other available names that could also draw consideration for the Suns coaching vacancy.
All things considered, Caporn would absolutely have to ace the interview process for me to believe the Suns would hire the assistant coach of one of the worst teams in the league.
