The Washington Wizards finally feel like a team on the rise, and for years, the fanbase has been waiting for those words to be true.
Washington has an All-Star guard in Trae Young, who believes in the direction the team is heading, and they are weeks away from adding the No. 1 overall pick to an already loaded young core.
Still, that hasn't been enough to convince Anthony Davis that it's worth his time to stick around in the DMV and risk using the limited years he has left in his NBA career to help a team climb out of the bottom of the NBA standings.
For some, Davis' preference to move on is understandable, while others feel that AD's reluctance to give the team a chance is disappointing.
Regardless, the future Hall of Famer has to understand that Washington doesn't owe him anything, and with his trade value being at an all-time low, if he really plans to force his way out of D.C., the Wizards will have no choice but to do what's best for them.
If that is how things unfold this offseason, the Wizards could pivot back to the trade they didn't make and use AD to get the deal done.
Wizards could send Anthony Davis to Sacramento for Domontas Sabonis
Swapping Davis for Domontas Sabonis may not be on fans' wishlists, but it's worth considering that Washington made calls to gauge interest in the versatile big man before they struck a deal with the Dallas Mavericks for AD.
Sabonis is a pass-first center who crashes the boards with the best in the league and has proven his ability to be a willing scorer.
The former Gonzaga star has been viewed as a negative asset to many in the league as of late, but the biggest reason why is due to the nagging injuries that have kept him off the court and the contract he's on.
Granted at 30, it's safe to say the former first-round pick has much more left in the tank than Davis, longevity-wise.
Is it an ideal situation? No, but it is one that the Wizards could consider, especially if they want to make Davis realize that there's worst situations he could be in.
The Sacramento Kings are stuck in the middle of trying to compete and rebuild, and without clear direction, it's safe to say no player would prefer to be in Sac Town over D.C., unless they simply want to be on the West Coast.
Obviously, AD would be the Wizards' preference to have in the frontcourt next to Alex Sarr and projected top pick AJ Dybantsa, but if they're forced to pivot, Sabonis wouldn't be a terrible option.
