There's no denying that the Washington Wizards were one of the worst teams in the NBA last season.

In fact, there's no denying that the Wizards have been one of the worst teams in the league for the last several years.

Washington has plenty to show for it, with multiple young prospects and former lottery picks on the roster headlined by the likes of Bilal Coulibaly, Alex Sarr and newcomer Tre Johnson.

The Wizards have the talent on the roster to make them one of the best rebuilding teams in the league, especially looking at their young core mixed with their financial flexbility and draft compensation to use moving forward in potential deals if general manager Will Dawkins chooses to get aggressive in the near future.

However, it's the overlooked moves that the Wizards made this offseason that puts them in position to potentially take a massive leap entering the 2025-26 season.

For starters, bringing in veteran guard CJ McCollum this offseason gives Brian Keefe a veteran presence on the roster and the backcourt that alone could be pivotal in the development of the team's young players.

Not to mention the vet is still playing at an extremely high-level considering his age and current situation in New Orleans over the last several years.

Outside of McCollum, the acquisition of Cam Whitmore is another move that could put the Wizards in position to make a leap this coming season.

The former first-round pick and Villanova standout has all the tools at his disposal to be an immediate impact player in Washington.

Furthermore, he has the talent and potential to be a cornerstone that the Wizards can build around if he's able to make strides in the areas of his game that need developing like facilitating.

Despite that, his elite scoring ability could make the Wizards offense even more dynamic than expected with the addition of Johnson.

Between the additions and the players already on the roster entering another season under Brian Keefe's system, the continuity and development of other young players could be huge for Washington alone.

Don't be surprised if the Wizards turn into one of the biggest sleepers in the East next season, especially looking at how wide open the Eastern Conference is as a whole.

Regardless, even if the Wizards aren't in the play-in conversation, it won't be a surprise to see them win double the amount of games they did last season.
