The Washington Wizards horrid season has made it hard for the fanbase to see the light at the end of the tunnel of this long-needed rebuild.
Early in the season, it was clear that the Wizards weren't going to be close enough to make a push for even a play-in seed for a chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs. As a result, fans turned their attention on the development of their young core and the upcoming NBA Draft.
At one point, Washington seemed to be the frontrunner to land the No. 1 overall pick with the opportunity to select their star of the future in Cooper Flagg. However, between the Duke standouts' lack of desire to play for the Wizards and Brian Keefe's squad random stretch of winning games last month, the Wizards are in an interesting spot heading into the offseason.
Nonetheless, while the upcoming draft order is far from being finalized, ESPN took the time to put together an NBA Mock Draft for how the two day event could unfold.
Here's how the Wizards fared:
Round 1, Pick 2: G Dylan Harper, Rutgers
With the second pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select guard, Dylan Harper from Rutgers University. Yes, I stole Adam Silver's bit, but it should be music to Wizards fans' ears come draft night.
Although Flagg is obviously the top prospect in the upcoming draft class, Harper is more than a solid consolation prize.
The Rutgers standout averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4 assists, while shooting 48.4% from field goal range and 33.3% from three. At 6-foot-6, the versatile guard has the size and the skillset to do it all at the next level. If he's surrounded by the right pieces, Harper could be the franchise piece the Wizards have desperately been searching for.
Round 1, Pick 19 (Via MEM): C Danny Wolf, Michigan
Danny Wolf spent two seasons at Yale before transferring to Michigan ahead of this season. In his lone year with the Wolverines, the 7-footer showcased just how impactful he can be helping turn the Dusty May's squad into one of the top teams in the Big Ten.
Wolf averaged 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists, while shooting 49.7% from field goal range and 33.6% from three. With his ability to play in the post, stretch the floor, crash the boards and facilitate the ball, he could be the perfect big man to play alongside Alex Sarr in Washington's front court.
Round 2, Pick 40 (Via PHX): F Alex Toohey, Sydney (Australia)
Alex Toohey lands with the Wizards to round out their draft on day two. The international product spent this past year playing in Australia for the Sydney Kings in the NBL.
Toohey originally committed to Gonzaga, but after a change of heart, he decided to remain in Australia to stay closet to home.
The forward averaged 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists for the Kings this season. Although he's a raw prospects, he has the tool to develop into a stud at the next level and with the Wizards in a developmental part of their rebuild, they would be the perfect landing spot for Toohey.
