The Washington Wizards have already dealt with enough setbacks as an organization over the last few years.

In fact, the team's last update about a player from EuroBasket added even more misfortune to the Wizards recent luck with French product Alex Sarr suffering a calf injury that ended his summer run with Team France during international play.

Now, the Wizards deal with yet another hit with guard and fellow French product Bilal Coulibaly's latest update from EuroBasket play.

Bilal Coulibaly undergoes surgery post EuroBasket injury

Coulibaly joined his teammate Alex Sarr overseas to suit up for his home country of France in FIBA EuroBasket play.

Now, the oversized guard finds himself in the same shoes as the big man being sidelined for the rest of the offseason and potentially longer after suffering an injury.

The former No. 7 overall pick reportedly suffered a finger injury that required surgery to repair the ligament in his right thumb on Friday.

Coulibaly's recent injury setback just adds yet another headache to the Wizards offseason and to make matters worse, the recent reviews from the two-way playmakers have been far from good.

The struggles for Coulibaly have been consistent over the last few seasons, but after a bit of an offensive leap during his sophomore season with the Wizards, the hope was that a strong offseason could put him in position to finally breakout this coming season in Washington.

However, if the offseason struggles weren't bad enough, now adding an injury and rehab to everything, Coulibaly will be facing an uphill climb to prove the Wizards' decision to draft him highly in the 2023 NBA Draft was the right one.

Not to mention, if Coulibaly misses time and one of the Wizards newest additions in Cam Whitmore, Tre Johnson or even Will Riley emerges as a top option for head coach Brian Keefe, it may put him on the outside looking in as the Wizards continue building towards the future.

General manager Will Dawkins has proven that when it comes to making moves to improve his team, he won't let personal ties interfere.

That said, if the Wizards come to a conclusion that Coulibaly doesn't fit their future goals anymore, it wouldn't be a shock to see him put in the same situation Deni Avdija was last year.

Regardless of what happens, Coulibaly will focus on rehabbing to avoid letting that scenario play out.
