The Washington Wizards haven't been shy this offseason when it comes to pulling the trigger on deals they think benefits them.

Not only is the team's short-term future in the back of general manager Will Dawkins' mind, but also the long-term goals set in stone for his rebuilding team.

Between the offseason additions of Tre Johnson, WIll Riley, Cam Whitmore and even Malaki Branham, Washington has taken swings on several high-upside players.

However, the deal that could impact the Wizards the most this season could be the acquisition of CJ McCollum.

Will Dawkins reveals reason for Poole trade

When the Wizards originally landed McCollum, the sense behind the move didn't seem to resonate with many around the league...at first.

Shortly after McCollum was announced to Washington, the Wizards landed Johnson with the No. 6 overall pick in the NBA Draft.

Adding a guard to what many viewed as an already loaded backcourt, the move to land McCollum quickly made sense.

The guard would serve as the veteran addition that the Wizards desperately hoped that Malcolm Brogdon could be last season.

At least, that seemed to be the reason behind the McCollum-Johnson pairing in the backcourt.

Fortunately, Dawkins put the questions to rest by revealing the reasoning behind the decision to move on from Jordan Poole and welcome a vet like McCollum:

“That move specifically we felt really good about how that’s going to position us to have flexibility in the future," Dawkins said. "But more importantly what it does to our style of play."

Dawkins also added "At the end of the day, we're freeing up opportunity for young players, we're freeing up sustainability and flexibility, while adding two guys that fit our team."

Moving on from Poole not only seemed to be a direct effort to free up minutes for the young players on the roster like Johnson and Whitmore as noted, but also the goal was cleary about changing the style of play from last year.

With the new additions and the departure of Poole, Washington could be in position to play with more ball movement offensively and that alone could be huge for players on the roster that thrive putting the ball in the hoop without needing iso-ball to do that.

Following Dawkins' remarks, it's easy to understand the motive behind the Poole move and it's clear that the Wizards have a game plan in mind moving forward.
