The Washington Wizards made multiple moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February.
Washington added a number of new players during their roster shakeup, as did many other teams in the league.
However, there was no trade bigger than the blockbuster deal between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks the weekend prior to the trade deadline.
In the move, the Lakers landed one of the premiere talents in the league in Luka Doncic in exchange for a trade package focused around Anthony Davis, Max Christie and draft capital.
Instantly following Sham Charania's report about the mega-trade, nobody believed the deal could be true. Not only did this trade completely change the future of each team, but it also sent shockwaves through the league impacting the upcoming deadline and all future trades as a whole.
Although this deal was arguably the biggest trade in NBA history, it was more shocking to NBA fans and teams around the league because there were no indications by either team that these franchise players could possibly be made available for trade.
In fact, the deal was so secretive between Lakers' general manager Rob Pelinka and Mavericks' general manager Nico Harrison, that Utah Jazz President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge had no idea who was headlining the deal he helped facilitate by taking on unwanted contracts (Jalen Hood-Schifino) in the deal.
Shortly after the deal, reports surfaced that many teams around the league were outraged that they weren't approached with a potential deal or at least given the notion that Doncic could be had in a trade.
Not that many teams around the league would have had the ammunition to make a deal to acquire the Slovenian star, but it feels like it would have at least been wise for Harrison who could've used a bidding war to increase the return for Doncic.
Although that ship has sailed, ESPN took the time to share what each team possibly could have offered the Dallas Mavericks for a chance to land Luka Doncic.
That said, take a look at the potential trade package ESPN put together for the Wizards
Wizards Doncic trade package:
In this deal, the Wizards would be trading the reigning No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr and Jordan Poole to the Mavericks along with a boatload of future first-round picks to sweeten the deal.
Does this trade work on paper? Yes.
Would this trade entice the Mavericks? Not even close.
Although it was nice of ESPN to include the Wizards in their fun scenario, it's clear that Washington just doesn't have the talent on the roster to pull off a trade of this caliber, at least not right now.
Despite that, Washington will have an opportunity of their own to land a franchise player of their own this upcoming offseason.
