The Wizards' LeBron James dream just got slightly more realistic

Could the Wizards actually lure LeBron James to D.C.?

LeBron James has officially become the top name on the free agent market after the future Hall of Famer announced he would officially be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers to continue his career elsewhere.

The writing was on the wall for quite some time now, especially after the front office made it a point to consider Luka Doncic as the player their roster decisions would be built around, with James no longer being considered the face of the franchise.

The idea of landing an MVP caliber player at age wouldn't seem like a realistic option if it were any other player, but the fact that LeBron is still playing at an extremly high level makes him an option that nearly every team will be open to pursuing.

And with the Golden State Warriors putting together a master plan to acquire Anthony Davis from the Wizards in hopes of luring James to join Stephen Curry, it's clear that the veteran has made his interest in reuniting with AD behind the scenes clear.

If that truly is the case, what's to stop the Wizards from flipping the script and pursuing James themselves?

LeBron James would be the perfect addition in Washington

There's no doubt that James likely won't play for another five years, but that decision stems from a choice, not because he can't.

Averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds on 51.5% shooting from the field and 31.7% from three, James proved he can still contribute at an extremely high-level.

Not to mention, suiting up in 60 of 82 games at his age is a win in its own right.

Washington is a team building towards the future, and James departed from Los Angeles due to the fact that the Lakers were building for the future, so his fit with the Wizards obviously comes into question, especially with options like the Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Miami Heat on the table.

Nonetheless, the Wizards' moves over the last few months have put them in a unique spot where pursuing James could actually make sense.

Not only does signing in D.C. give LeBron the opportunity to reunite with AD, but it also gives him the chance to form a big three alongside Trae Young and Davis, the same big 3 that the Lakers envisioned for years.

Not to mention, James would have the chance to mentor several young prospects in Washington, headlined by reigning No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.

It won't come as a shock to hear the Wizards are indeed interested in James, and if the feelings are mutual, there's a real chance that a signing could happen given the expectation that the four-time MVP is willing to sign the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception ($15 million).

Considering the Wizards are already flirting with a reunion with veteran guard Russell Westbrook, age clearly doesn't seem to be a major factor for Washington.
