Wizards are surprisingly deep.

The Washington Wizards have been awfully quiet since the start of free agency.

Maybe it could be because of their pre-draft fireworks landing CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk in a blockbuster trade, or it could be because of their underrated draft haul in the NBA Draft landing two of the high-upside prospects in Tre Johnson and Will Riley in the first round.

It could also be due to the fact that team is prioritizing the development of their young core and there's no intention to bring in any competition to steal minutes from the young players.

Then again, that wouldn't make sense considering the abundance of veterans currently slated to be on the opening roster at the moment.

It could also not be due to a lack of effort. Maybe general manager Will Dawkins is doing his part pursuing free agents but with the Wizards not in position to compete for a playoff spot, it could be hard to land any outside talent.

Dawkins could also be focusing on offloading the contracts of Marcus Smart and/or Khris Middleton; potentially other veterans too.

Nonetheless, if the season started tomorrow with no additional moves from the team's front office, the Wizards roster may arguably already be much deeper than last season's roster.

In fact. it may be a much deeper roster than many people think.

That said, let's take a look at how the Wizards current depth chart looks heading into next season.

Potential Starting Lineup

PG - Bub Carrington
SG - CJ McCollum
SF - Bilal Coulibaly
PF - Khris Middleton
C - Alex Sarr

The Wizards starting lineup may not be the most talented group out of the NBA, but there's an argument that they're certainly not the worst.

Sure, the mix of young players and veterans may not gel well together, but on paper, there's definitely enough talent to compete in most games and that's not even considering their bench unit.

Wizards Potential Reserves

G Tre Johnson
G Marcus Smart
F Corey Kispert
F Kyshawn George
C Kelly Olynyk
F Will Riley
F Justin Champagnie
G AJ Johnson
F Tristan Vukcevic
C Richaun Holmes

Headlined by an explosive scorer in Tre Johnson who was just selected No. 6 overall and a former Defensive Player of the Year, the Wizards depth chart is arguably much deeper than what Brian Keefe had to work with last season, especially during the lengthy portion of the season where the injury bug seemingly plagued the team.

Regardless, it seems clear that the Wizards roster has quietly become one of the deepest units, at least of the rebuilding teams.
