The Washington Wizards have continued to make offseason moves with their latest addition being the re-signing of veteran forward Anthony Gill.
Gill has spent each of the last five seasons in Washington, where he's become a bit of a culture piece for the team's foundation over the last few years.
At least, that's what it seems like consideirng the 32-year-old hasn't offered much of anything on the court during his time with the Wizards, averaging 3.4 points and 1.3 rebounds over the last five years.
Not to say Gill isn't talented, but considering his age and lack of impact on the court, there's no reason for the Wizards to keep him on the roster unless its solely for what he offers off the court in the locker room.
Regardless of the reason why general manager Will Dawkins opted to re-sign the Virginia product, it doesn't take away from the fact that the team now has an extra problem that they will immediately have to begin to sort out in the coming months.
Following the signing of Gill, the Wizards are now over the standard contract limit which all but guarantees that Washington has at least one more move to make in order to trim their roster down to size prior to the start of the regular season.
Looking at names of players who could be on the outside looking in due to this move, the likes of Malaki Branham, Dillon Jones or Justin Champagnie come to mind.
All the players mentioned above are end of bench reserves who could find themselves as the odd man out prior to the start of the season.
Obviously, a move has to be made and while the names above could be a victim to the numbers game, there's no saying that Gill himself will for sure be apart of the Wizards when the season comes around.
Whether he was signed to be apart of the team moving forward or simply just an extra player for when the training camp comes around is still to be seen.
Regardless, the move to re-sign Gill doesn't remove him from the possibility of being let go in the near future.
Nonetheless, whether it's the result of buying out, waiving or trading away players, the Wizards will have to make additional moves to sort out their problem in order to meet the league requirements.
That said, keep an eye out for additional Wizards' moves to come.
