The Washington Wizards have re-signed forward Anthony Gill to a one-year contract just a month after letting the veteran go.

At this point, Gill finds himself as a staple of D,C. considering he's been with the Wizards for each of the last five seasons,

Gill is by no means a rotation player for Washington, averaging 3.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0,5 assists in 230 games for the Wizards.

However, throughout his time, he's seemingly made a lasting impact as a teammate and focal point of the team culture that the Wizards' front office can't help but keep him around.

Looking back at how active the team has been during the offseasons and the NBA trade deadline, it's become genuinely impressive that Gill has stuck around.

And while he may be sticking around, the move to sign him back to the active roster all but ensures that somebody else won't be.

Wizards are over the standard contract limit

The move to re-sign Gill not only adds yet another player to the depth chart for Brian Keefe to manage minutes for in 2025, but it also puts the team one standard contract over the legal limit of 15.

With 16 standard contracts on the roster, the Wizards will be forced to either waive or trade a standard contract away.

After buying out Marcus Smart, Richaun Holmes and Blake Wesley, Washington put themselves in position to be just at the limit, which alone was impressive considering how quickly general manager Will Dawkins managed to complete the roster gymanstic to get his team back where it needed to be limit wise.

However, adding Gill back to the roster puts the Wizards right back in the same boat they were at this time last month.

This doesn't exactly mean there's a move imminent, especially considering Washington has until the start of the regular season to make the moves necessary to get the roster back down to size.

Nonetheless, with a pending move ensured to happen, it's fair to keep an eye out and wonder if the Wizards are scanning the landscape for an additional trade that could involve sending more salaries out, or if the team is simply just adding competition for when training camp comes around.

Regardless, it's clear that the Wizards aren't done making moves and with a pivotal season to get young players on the court, a move to sign 32-year-old Gill is a bit of a head scratcher.
