The Washington Wizards quickly were put in a position to make a decision on Anthony Davis' future sooner rather than later when free agency began.
According to several reports, the Golden State Warriors were flirting with the idea of pursuing a blockbuster trade for Davis in an effort to entice free agent LeBron James to form a Big 4 alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
However, talks didn't get very far, and not because of a lack of interest from external teams, but because Washington quickly shut down the idea that they'd even be open to moving on from the two-way star.
As of now, Davis only has two more seasons on his current deal, which immediately draws a question mark surrounding his long-term fit in D.C.
Between the Wizards' lack of interest in fielding offers and the possibility of extension talks this summer, it's clear how Washington views their relationship with the big man moving forward.
The Washington Wizards are not interested in trading 10-time NBA All-Star forward Anthony Davis and are not listening to trade offers for him, a source told @espn @andscape. Another NBA team exec says Wizards GM Will Dawkins is a huge fan of AD.

Wizards want to extend Anthony Davis, not interested in trading him
Will Dawkins has made it very clear every time he speaks to the media that the plan is for Davis to be in the DMV for the long haul.
The idea of a trade never came from doubt surrounding the Wizards' side, but more so due to the fact that AD made it clear behind the scenes that playing for a contender was his preference moving forward.
With the moves from the Wizards this offseason, though, extending Trae Young and landing AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick, there's genuine belief from the organization that making a run at a playoff spot is a feasible goal.
Not to mention, Davis is searching for a max extension, and of all his options, the Wizards are the most likely team to give him that deal.
Washington has no interest in moving the big man, and with the talent on the roster, mixed with Davis' hopes of landing an extension, all signs are pointing towards this being a long-term relationship and no longer a short-sighted move that could blow up in the Wizards' face.
With a Davis extension on the horizon, Washington legitimately has a loaded roster they can pitch to interested free agents, one of which being a reunion with former star guard Russell Westbrook, who could be a solid depth signing to make a run next season.
Regardless, the noise over the last few days has seemingly led us to an answer on whether Davis will be here or not when the season starts.
