The Washington Wizards have built a reputation over the years and it hasn't exactly been a good one.

With a constant cycle of medicority, Washington's inability to find solid value in the NBA Draft seemed to be one of the biggest issues that plagued them throughout the team's rebuild.

That is, until the new front office regime of general manager Will Dawkins and President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger took over the reigns.

After years of striking out in the draft, with the likes of Troy Brown, Johnny Davis and even Corey Kispert coming to mind, Washington's inability to find a foundational piece put the team in a tough spot when the new regime officially decided to press the restart button.

However, with the Wizards recent signing, it appears that not only is the team's rebuild switching gears, but their abysmal draft reputation has already done a full 360 too.

Wizards sign Jamir Watkins to standard contract

The Wizards continue to reward players who have stepped up over the last few weeks as the team looks to fill out their roster with prospects who the team views as a piece in their long-term vision.

After the recent signing of former second-round pick Tristan Vukcevic and now reigning second-round pick Jamir Watkins, it appears that Washington has finally managed to find value in the NBA Draft, even in the later rounds.

Watkins is only averaging 5.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.9 assists on the season, while shooting 43% from field goal range, and while that may not seem promotion worthy, it's what he's shown over the last couple weeks that has seemingly opened the eyes of the team's decision makers.

In his last six games, Watkins is averaging 13.2 points, while not only proving to be a constant presence on the offensive end, but consistently proving to be an impact defender; the area in which he's showcased as his true calling card.

All that to say, the Florida State product's signing is just yet another example of how Washington continues to flip the narrative around about the team's historically bad luck when it comes to finding value in the NBA Draft.

If the Wizards continue to draft at the level they have over the last few seasons, not only will they be back in the mix soon with the new superstar duo of Trae Young and Anthony Davis, but they'll remain in the mix for the forseeable future courtesy of their ability to add talent consistently.
