The Wizards' response to Anthony Davis rumors proves the organization has matured

The Wizards deserve credit for not giving in to an underwhelming package from the Warriors.

Despite not having played a game for the Washington Wizards yet, Anthony Davis’s tenure in D.C. has been marred by tension.

Since he was acquired by the Wizards in February, the former 10-time All-Star has seemed skeptical at best about staying in Washington. This has led fans and insiders alike to speculate that the big man may never play a game for the Wizards.

With the ongoing rumors that on Tuesday, led to the reality that 4-time NBA Champion LeBron James is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, the talk picked up even more that the league’s all-time leading scorer wanted to link back up with his old running mate in Davis.

The Golden State Warriors are the team that was heavily rumored to be committed to getting the deal done for both of the Top 75 players.

However, Will Dawkins and the Washington Wizards put an end to these rumors when longtime NBA Insider Marc Spears reported not long after the LeBron news that they are not listening to trade offers for the talented big.

And given the rumored package for Davis and seemingly nothing better being offered, I think this is an excellent move by the Wizards.

The Wizards aren’t in the business of helping anyone but the Wizards

The fact is that Anthony Davis makes this team way better today than anything they would get back from the Warriors.

A trade centered around 37-year-old Jimmy Butler, who, despite his immense talent, is coming off an ACL tear, and picks are not appealing at all to the Wizards brass that is looking to finally compete following the drafting of No.1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.

Even being able to snag the newest Warrior Yaxel Lendeborg while enticing certainly lowers the expectations in the short term for a Wizards team that is looking to make its first postseason appearance since 2021.

The hubbub that would have been sure to come with The Brow linking back up with somebody he won an NBA Finals with in 2020, LeBron, along with an Olympic teammate of his, Stephen Curry, would almost surely make the Warriors better, but that is not the Wizards' concern.

The Wizards front office owes it to the fans to keep AD

Wizards fans, for far too long now, have been subject to picks, prospects, and past-their-prime stars to watch, and accept that the Warriors package would have been no different.

Dawkins and the Wizards' front office need to give Wizards fans hope on the floor, not look ahead to a future that may or may not come.

Placing AD on the floor alongside the face of the franchise in AJ Dybantsa and a 4-time All-Star in Trae Young puts the focus on the Wizards now and makes them an exciting watch, which is something that was desperately missing from the team.
