The NBA trade deadline never disappoints, especially when blockbuster trades happen out of the blue.
For the Washington Wizards, Christmas came early when four-time All-Star Trae Young listed D.C. as his preferred landing spot making him the first big name of the regular season to find a new home prior to the February 5th deadline.
Between the Wizards addition of Young and the team's rumored interest in names like Jonathan Kuminga, Domontas Sabonis and even Zion Williamson, it seemed that Washington's front office was prepared to create fireworks ahead of the deadline.
Nonetheless, the aggressiveness from the team has seemingly quieted down as of late, but that hasn't stopped the Wizards from continously finding themselves as winners from trade season.
In fact, the recent blockbuster move from the Utah Jazz to acquire former Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. may have been the cherry on the top for Washington's dream offseason plans.
Wizards offseason plans just received a huge boost
Obviously, the initial thoughts for the Wizards when the Jackson Jr. to Utah news broke was what the future could hold for coveted big man Walker Kessler, who's been viewed as a target for several teams in restricted free agency this offseason.
One team in particular who's been linked as a legitimate suitor for Kessler has been the Wizards as they seemingly view a frontcourt pairing of Alex Sarr and Kessler as a move that will get them one step closer to competing in the Eastern Conference sooner rather than later.
And while that still could prove to be one of the biggest wins for Washington as the fallout of this blockbuster move, the Wizards may have found yet another positive from the Jazz's newfound aggresiveness.
As the Wizards continue their tanking efforts, they find themselves in a heated race at the bottom of the NBA standings with a 13-35 record.
At the moment, Washington's biggest offseason threats to potentially spoil their dreams of earning the No. 1 overall pick are the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Indiana Pacers and none other than the Jazz.
Fortunately for Washington and nearly every other team fighting for the chance to land a top draft pick in the NBA Draft Lottery this offseason, the move to land not just Jackson Jr, but Vince Williams, John Konchar and Jock Landale surround Utah's young core with several talented players that can and will contribute to winning.
Even if Utah continues to make moves, the addition of Jackson Jr. in its own right will contribute to winning, which alone could be a major boost to the Wizards chances of earning the No. 1 overall pick.
