The Washington Wizards roster looks completely different heading into next season than it did when the regular season came to an end in April.

Part of the team's revamped roster comes courtesy of the young talent added by general manager Will Dawkins this offseason.

That doesn't include the interesting addition of veteran guard CJ McCollum, who play a major role in the development of the team's young prospects this season.

However, other parts of the roster turnover come at the expense of veteran departures Washington didn't see beneficial in bringing back for another season.

Of those departures, Malcolm Brogdon, Marcus Smart and Richaun Holmes lead the list of names the team let go this offseason.

Brogdon found a new home with the New York Knicks, where he'll compete for a roster spot throughout training camp and the preseason.

Smart quickly found a new home with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he'll have the chance to contend for a championship.

Meanwhile, Holmes proved his worth signing a lucrative deal overseas with the chance to find a much larger role with Panathinaikos next season.

Washington has made it a point of emphasis over the last couple years to land veteran talent to surround their young team with.

While the mentorship veterans bring is beneficial, Washington's other motive behind the additions have been the idea of turning the vets into additional assets when their partnership comes to an end.

Not to mention, the Wizards have found ways to land additional draft compensation and young talent such as AJ Johnson in deals by taking on unwanted contracts that team's don't want.

A new way that rebuilding teams like the Wizards can find value to top contenders that have to find loopholes around the hard consequences of the CBA guidelines.

So far, the Wizards haven't ran into any road blocks that should deter their gameplan moving forward.

In fact, the Wizards should do everything they can to keep the strategy going by taking on unwanted contracts again at the NBA trade deadline in February.

Not only can Washington land potential draft assets or young talent in deals, but they could find a way to gain even more financial flexibility than what they have moving forward.

With additional draft capital, an abundance of young talent and financial flexibility, the Wizards rebuild could be in a perfect place moving forward that gives Washington the chance to be aggressive when the right time comes.
