Tre Johnson enters his rookie season with high expectations and a chip on his shoulder.

Considering he was selected with the No. 6 overall pick, you're probably wondering why the star guard has a chip on his shoulder.

It's a fair question, especially considering most lottery picks in the NBA are more than happy just to get in the league.

However, you could tell from the jump that the energy surrounding Johnson was completely different.

The Texas product felt like him sliding out of the top five added extra motivation to not only prove the Wizards front office right for calling his name at No. 6 overall, but also to prove the five teams ahead of them that Johnson should have been the pick.

Obviously, Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper were scouted as far and away the top prospects in the NBA Draft.

Many believed that Flagg was a generational talent and Harper wasn't far behind him.

However, outside of that top tier of talent, the word around the league leading up to the NBA combine was that the drop off to the second tier of talent would be filled with the likes of Johnson and other players like Jeremiah Fears.

While Johnson may not have been considered the top talent in the NBA Draft, many made it clear that the guard may have been the best all-around scorer of any player available.

For the Wizards, landing a talented scorer like Johnson could be game changing for not only their rebuild, but the future for the Wizards as a whole.

Washington has a surplus of talent on the roster, but Johnson's upside makes him the most intriguing prospect to monitor heading into next season.

All eyes are on Flagg and Harper heading into the NBA season as the most likely candidates to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and that disrespect may be the last piece of motivation that the Wizards top rookie needs to put together an unforgettable rookie campaign.

There's no doubt that situation matters and with both Flagg and Harper entering next season on playoff hopeful rosters, their impact may be displayed on a bigger stage.

Despite that, Johnson has all the tools to make an immediate impact with the Wizards and when it's all said and done, the playmaker could find himself as the top scoring rookie across the league.

Johnson is preparing to make a statement and the Wizards are looking to prove that they finally found the cornerstone they've desperately been searching for.
