The Washington Wizards entered Thursday night's matchup against the Charlotte Hornets with a prime opportunity to get back in the win column,
Despite the Hornets struggles this season, there was little faith in the Wizards to protect home court last night, and understandably so. Washington has been terrible this season as they've stacked losses as both the away team and home squad.
Nonetheless, the Wizards finally showed heart and gave their fans a performance on Thursday night that the home crowd could be proud about,.
That said, here's a look at the top three players from the Wizards fourth win of the season.
Jordan Poole gets back on track
The biggest knock on Jordan Poole this season has been his inconsistency to put up consecutive games where he proved he was the best Wizards player on the court. There's no denying the talent is there, and with his ability to score at will, there should be no doubt that he can get his fair share of buckets on a nightly basis.
On Thursday, Poole showed a flash of what Wizards fans were excited for when they originally landed him in their deal with the Warriors. The Michigan product finished his night with a team-high 27 points, four assists and three rebounds. Not only did he impress on offense, but Poole impacted the game defensively with two steals and two blocks to go with his solid offensive night.
Malcolm Brogdon continues to raise his trade value
Malcolm Brogdon is another Wizards player that came to play against the Hornets. The veteran provided a much needed spark off the bench for Washington totaling 25 points and six assists while shooting 8/13 from FG range and 3/5 from beyond the arc.
If he continues to stack performances like this, it may be hard for the Wizards to hold on to Brogdon with contending teams likely to up their offer for the guard.
Alex Sarr impresses vs. Hornets
One of my keys for the Wizards stealing this win against the Hornets on Thursday was getting Alex Sarr involved early. This matchup seemed to favor the lengthy forward on both sides of the ball, and undoubtebly the French product felt that way too.
Sarr ended his night with 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists. In addition to his offensive impact, the two-way big man added on three blocks in the win.
Following the win, it's clear that the Wizards have the talent on the roster to compete on a nightly basis. The problem up to this point has been getting the team to get consistent contributions from multiple key players night in and night out.
Furthermore, Thursday night's win goes to show that if the Wizards could stack on good performances as a team, they could find a way to stack wins if they stay to course on this long season.
