The Washington Wizards returned to action on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder and may have put together one of the worst performances of the season on their home floor.
Oklahoma City entered this matchup as the top seed in the Western Conference with a 31-6 record. Considering the Thunder are expected by many to make a run in the postseason to contend for a championship, it's fair to say nobody expected the Wizards to knock off OKC by any means.
However, with Washington's improvement in competitiveness over the last couple of weeks, fans of the team were hoping to at least see a good game in front of the Capital One Arena crowd. Instead, the Wizards were flat out embarrassed on their home court with a 136-95 loss.
Now falling to 6-31 on the season, Washington continues to gain momentum for the No. 1 overall pick with many blue chip prospects to choose from in the upcoming NBA Draft this offseason.
Nonetheless, here's 3 takeaways from the Wizards blowout loss over the weekend.
Kyle Kuzma's days in Washington are numbered
Kyle Kuzma has been one of the hottest names on the trade market as the NBA trade deadline inches closer. The versatile forward has been in rumors since last season and this year looks like a deal may finally get done for Kuzma to be dealt out of Washington.
And following an abysmal shooting night (2/12 FG, 0/6 3PT) from Kuzma on Sunday in his return to the starting lineup, the writing on the wall seems to be there for the Utah product to be on his way out of D.C.
Corey Kispert's shooting has heated up over the last week
Corey Kispert has been one of the lone bright spots for the Wizards over the last several games. The Gonzaga alum's shooting has heated up over the last few games, and he carried his hot shooting into the battle with the Thunder.
The forward ended the game against OKC with a team-high 17 points shooting 6/9 from field goal range, including 60% shooting from beyond the arc.
Washington's starters were outscored 79-44
One of the biggest issues for the Wizards on Sunday was the team's lack of production from their starting lineup. Washington struggled from top to bottom and the team's starting lineup being outscored 79-44 led to a disparity in points that were too much to overcome regardless of bench points from either side.
With Washington's starters continuously struggling to put up points, especially against top competition, it'll be hard for the team to stack together any wins with lackluster performances like that.
