The Washington Wizards hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday in the second night of a back-to-back following a blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.
Washington entered this matchup looking to show some heart after an embarrassing outing to the Thunder just one day before. Not only did the Wizards have a opportunity to show their home fans that they have more to offer than just consistent blowouts, but they had the chance to snap a six-game losing streak.
Unfortunately, the Wizards blew both opportunities as they put together another lackluster performance losing to the Timberwolves 120-106 in yet another loss in Capital One Arena. Following the loss, Washington fell to 6-32 on the season and 5-17 at home.
Nonetheless, just like every matchup, here's some takeaways from the Wizards 32nd loss of the season as the team continues to chase the No. 1 overall pick.
Kyle Kuzma leads the Wizards in scoring
Kyle Kuzma has been a hot topic for the Wizards this season and majority of the time, it hasn't been for anything positive. The forward has dealt with injuries and inconsistency throughout the start of the season, which has added to the buzz about the Utah product being dealt ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
However, on Monday, Kuzma put together a solid performance leading the team in scoring with 22 points. In addition, the 29-year-old added o five rebounds., five assists and three steals. Following one of the better performances on the season for Kuzma despite the loss, he could benefit himself and Washington's front office if he could stack good performances to increase his trade value.
Alex Sarr showcases underrated skill
Alex Sarr has improved as the regular season continues and so far the rookie has shown flashes of multiple impressive skills. The main ability that Sarr has impressed with is his versatility on defense as a shot blocker. Against the Timberwolves, the French product showcased his underrated passing ability finishing with five assists.
If Sarr can continue to develop his game and fine-tune his offense to pair with his impressive defense, the 7-footer has all the tools to be a top two-way talent in the league.
Corey Kispert's hot shooting cools off
Corey Kispert has been leading the Wizards off the bench over the last few games shooting efficiently from both field goal range and beyond the arc. The Gonzaga product entered Monday's matchup against Minnesota looking to build on his hot shooting as of recent, but the forward couldn't keep the recent shooting outbreak going.
The former first-round pick finished with just 2 points, shooting 1/4 from field goal range.
