Washington Wizards’ summer league team appears it will see a familiar face coming soon. Reports surfaced that former Wizard Danuel House will be joining the team in Vegas for the annual summer tournament.

Last season, Danuel House spent his rookie year in Washington. Now it appears he will be joining the Wizards in Vegas for the 2017 NBA Summer League.

After going undrafted from Texas A&M, House joined the Wizards for the 2016 NBA Summer League. After a successful performance in the summer tournament, he was invited back for training camp, and was one of the last players to make the roster.

As great as that storyline sounds, the barriers to entry for House remained high. House only played in one game last season, getting one minute of playing time in a November loss in Cleveland.

Although the Wizards were healthy for most of the season (excluding Ian Mahinmi), injuries really hampered House’s ability to have a productive season. On November 30, 2016, he was diagnosed with with a fracture in his right wrist, which required him to miss six weeks. He would end up missing 39 games with the injury.

After returning in the second half of the season, House bounced between the Wizards and the Delaware 87ers of the D-League on occasion. He played 10 games in Delaware, and averaged 13.3 points per game and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 45.6% from the field and 41.9% on three-pointers.

House was eventually waived by the Wizards on March 1st, as they made room to sign Brandon Jennings. I’m excited that Washington could bring House back in for another go at summer league, as he always seemed to be a great teammate, despite clearly getting no chance to touch the court.

Although not a Texas A&M fan, I still remember vividly House leading his team back from down 12 seconds with under a minute left in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, to tie and eventually win in overtime. One of the most remarkable feats I’ve ever seen.

Despite being undrafted, House showed plenty promise in college, and still has the chance to find his spot in the NBA. Maybe that will be in Washington.
