Washington Wizards Should Save Boogie From Sacramento

Improvement should be everyone’s goal, but if you’re in a winning situation, would you risk losing it for the sake of potential improvement? Most would probably opt to stay in the situation that’s proven to be successful.

Kevin Durant is the Washington Wizards‘ number one target this summer.

He’s playing along side an MVP caliber talent in Russell Westbrook and his supporting cast is light years ahead of Washington’s. John Wall has never played with another All-Star and Durant is playing with the likes of Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, Enes Kanter and a number of other valuable rotation players.

The Wizards are hoping that Durant leaves that situation for theirs. Now, apply that to your life. Would you leave a job that pays well and where everyone loves you for a riskier position without nearly as many benefits? Probably not.

Durant probably isn’t going to come to Washington.

I admire the Wizards’ hope because it’s cute. They’re going to ask a married woman out and she’s likely going to say no. They’re holding onto a slim chance that she says yes, but there’s a great chance that she values her marriage more than their potential presence.

The Wizards should consider looking elsewhere, because continuing the Durant pursuit without a clear plan B or C is really, really dumb. I don’t know whether or not they have a plan B — if there’s another woman out there that isn’t married — but they should certainly start looking immediately.

Instead of pulling all their eggs in a single basket, the Washington Wizards should strongly look to obtain another All-Star through trade. The free agent market isn’t going to be packed with those players. Al Horford is a borderline All-Star and Dwight Howard‘s best days are behind him. After that, there’s plenty of solid role players that won’t do much besides leech on Wall’s talent.

John Wall deserves the chance to play with another player who’s capable of carrying the team. He’s been in the nation’s capital for six years and he’s played with a bunch of players who are solely dependent on him. So, why not acquire someone who’s capable of carrying the team and someone who’s friendly with the franchise player?

The Sacramento Kings have been extremely inconsistent this season. They’re capable of losing to the Philadelphia 76ers, but they’re also capable of beating the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sadly, they’ll probably miss the NBA Playoffs for the 3048th straight season this year.

DeMarcus Cousins has been in trade rumors ever since he stepped inside California.

He’s played for arguably the worst franchise in sports, yet he’s been labeled a headcase.

As far as I’m concerned, the only headcases in Sacramento are the ones that have failed to find consistency for one of the best players in the world.

Even though the league isn’t centered around big men (see what I did there?), Cousins is an exception.

Cousins has averaged over 24 points and 10 rebounds per game this season.

He’s undoubtedly one of the best players in the league, and while he’s not perfect, it would be crazy to think that he’s not capable of being a key piece on a championship team.

Like Wall, though, Boogie has never played alongside another All-Star.

Boogie has been coached by about a dozen different people, played with about a trillion point guards and even went through countless changes within ownership and management. Those things will all cause a player to have issues on the court.

Players are people too. They need consistency so their effort doesn’t go to waste. Cousins will continue to play at an All-Star level and the franchise will remain incompetent because it’s run by people who don’t know what they’re doing. That would frustrate you, just like it’s frustrated Boogie.

Cousins, like that woman who’s in a marriage that’s doomed to fail, needs to be saved. There’s another man out there — a man who’s compassionate, single and ready for a partner. That man is John Wall.

Did I just suggest that Wall and Boogie should get married? Carry on.

There are some out there that think Boogie needs a handler, like he’s a Jurassic Park dinosaur or something. Boogie has never done anything irrational off the court. He’s occasionally tough to deal with, but his circumstances warrant the frustration that he shows on the court.

The coach is sly, the ownership is incompetent and the point guards are like friends you make that move to different schools. He needs consistency and he could get that in Washington with John Wall.

The Washington Wizards don’t have a single player on their roster that isn’t named John Wall that shouldn’t be discussed in trades.

Bradley Beal is injury prone and he’s going to get the max contract. Can you say, “Eric Gordon”? Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre are good, but will they ever reach Boogie’s level of production? The same applies to Marcin Gortat and Nene, who might even retire after this season.

The Kings will eventually part ways with Boogie and he deserves a chance to play for a franchise that will value his effort. The Wizards need to find a partner for Wall and Boogie fits the description perfectly. He’s been friends with him for quite some time, and believe it or not, that actually matters.

Boogie and Wall have been very close and they’ve maintained a friendship despite living on completely different sides of the country. They’re both in similar situations, and while Wall’s is a bit more consistent, they’ve both been forced to carry the load for their respective teams.

Wall and Boogie are competitive, great at what they do and are built to play with each other. The Washington Wizards have the pieces to get it done. Instead of waiting around on a marriage to fail, the Wizards need to pursue someone who’s likely available and would love a chance to start a relationship. Boogie and Wall, like any other hard-working players, deserve a chance to win. That could be accomplished in D.C. with both of them together. Durant will renew his vows this summer to a team that loves him back and Boogie should seek a new partner. Go get ’em, Ernie.
