Washington Wizards’ John Wall Named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week For Second Time This Season
By Ben Mehic
Washington Wizards guard John Wall has blossomed into a legitimate superstar. He was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on March 13.
The Washington Wizards, 41-24, are sitting second in the Eastern Conference, just two games behind the first seeded Cleveland Cavaliers. For the first time since 1978, the Wizards are on pace to win 50-plus games.
The team’s success has resulted in more exposure for individual players on the roster and the coaching staff. Washington’s been televised on national television more than ever and media outlets are beginning to cover the team extensively.
John Wall, in particular, is finally getting the love he deserves for carrying his club to a historic season.
Named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team for the fourth straight season this year, Wall is on-pace to make an All-NBA team for the first time in his career, averaging 23 points and over 10 assists per game.
This week, from March 6 to March 13, Wall put up roughly 30 points and 11 assists per game. He made 57 percent of his total shot attempts.

Most importantly, Wall led the Washington Wizards to an undefeated record (4-0).
Each of Washington’s four victories were on the road, two of which were wins in overtime.
On March 13, the Wizards announced that Wall has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week – the seventh time Wall’s gotten the honor and the second time he’s been named player of the week this season.
Washington will be in Minnesota on Monday night, looking to finish a road trip with 5 wins and 0 losses for the first time in decades.
If Wall continues to put up his current numbers (there’s no reason he won’t) and the Wizards continue winning games, he will thrust himself into the Most Valuable Player conversation with Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
It’s taken the Wizards seven seasons to build a legitimate contending team around Wall, but it seems like Ernie Grunfeld finally found the mixture of veterans and young players. Scott Brooks‘ development chops have helped Wall blossom into a superstar.

Washington has less than 20 games remaining in the season. Wall still has some time to rack up a few more player of the week awards.
