Washington Wizards Will Make An Aggressive Offer to Otto Porter When Free Agency Begins, According to Report
By Ryan Eugene
Washington Wizards small forward Otto Porter has been anticipating a max contract offer from his team for a while now. It was clear early in the season that he would get a max or close to from the Wizards. Now it appears the Wizards will offer him an “aggressive” deal when free agency commences at 12:01 AM on July 1st, before other NBA teams can sign him to an offer sheet. As Porter is a restricted free agent, the team would have the chance to match any offer.
Among the unsurprising news coming out of Washington this week, comes the news that the Wizards will make an aggressive offer to Otto Porter as soon as free agency commences Friday night into Saturday morning.
Since as early as January, it appeared we were on the way to this outcome. Porter led the NBA in three-point percentage before the All-Star break, and was a jack of all trades. He played solid defense using his length, rebounded well, and was a good third option on a 49-win team.

In fact in November, Porter averaged 8.6 rebounds a game, and was second on the team in offensive rebounds.
A max contract offer to Porter appears to fall in the range of 5-year/$120 million. If he signs a deal with another team, that max would be around 4-years/$100 million. We’ll see how much that 5th year matters to Porter
If Porter and his agent don’t like what the Wizards have to offer, expect them to quickly go shopping. There will certainly be plenty of interest around the league.
Speaking of his agent, a little noise has been made of the fact that Porter’s agent is David Falk, who slammed John Wall back in 2013.
Washington of course has the advantage of matching any offer Porter gets (4-year deals), but we’ll have to wait to see if Porter will give the team any discounts. Washington still has the additional advantage of being able to give Porter 8% annual raises over the course of the contract. If Porter did sign with a new team, he can only get 5% annual raises.
