Shooting Guard

Starter: Bradley Beal

Backup: Jodie Meeks

Reserve: Sheldon Mac

Another position of weakness for the Wizards has been the backup shooting guard spot. Although he’s coming off a 77 game season, which is a career high, Bradley Beal has struggled with various injuries throughout his career. Whenever he’s gotten hurt in the past, the offense struggled without his shooting and scoring ability.

Enter Jodie Meeks. Meeks has dealt with his own injuries the past few seasons, but when healthy he’s a very effective player. Just a few seasons removed from averaging 15.7 PPG on the Lakers, Meeks is still a capable scorer and shooter.

Last year with the Magic, Meeks shot 40% from three point range and scored 9.1 PPG. Basically, he nearly matches Bojan Bogdanovic’s production at half the price. Meeks will surely get open looks from three whether he’s playing with John Wall or Tim Frazier. He should see a shade under 20 MPG this season if he can stay healthy and provide a much-needed scoring punch off the bench.

Assuming he retains his roster spot, Sheldon Mac will see little playing time. However, he showcased impressive athleticism and scoring ability in spurts last season and in the Las Vegas summer league.
