BENCH:

Wizards: Tim Frazier, Jodie Meeks, Kelly Oubre Jr., Mike Scott, Ian Mahinmi

Cavaliers: Derrick Rose, Kyle Korver, Richard Jefferson, Jeff Green, Channing Frye

This is where things become a little more unbalanced.

More from Wiz of Awes

The Wizards’ bench is the biggest thing holding them back from vaulting into the tier of true contenders, and it was their ultimate downfall in last year’s playoffs. They added some nice pieces who could have a potentially big impact, but that remains to be seen.

The Cavaliers, on the other hand, have bolstered an already effective bench unit. Adding Derrick Rose on a short, minimum deal was a bargain. While Rose’s best days are far behind him and he’s an ineffective starter, he has the talent to be a very effective 6th man. While it’s not the type of move to vault them over the Warriors, it’s a solid signing and insurance policy in case Irving flees.

Jeff Green has struggled to find a home in recent years, but can still play. Korver, Channing Frye, and Richard Jefferson provide on-court production and solid locker room presences.

If the additions of Tim Frazier, Jodie Meeks, and Mike Scott truly improve the Wizards’ bench, than they might be able to compete with the Cavaliers. But as of now, the Cavaliers depth is far more talented.
