Rookie of the Year: Troy Brown Jr.

As of right now, Troy Brown Jr. is the only rookie set to begin the season with the Wizards. Although this award may be a long shot, the Wizards found a gem in their 2018 15th pick. Despite the reach for Rookie of the Year honors, what makes Brown stand out amongst his peers is the versatility he brings to the team.

NBA.com Draft Express described Brown as the best versatile young wing with intriguing potential as a do-it-all, two-way player. Although highly athletic, the best part of Brown’s game is his ability to facilitate and create shots for himself and others, similar to Ben Simmons.

As a one and done freshman at the University of Oregon, Brown averaged 11.3 points, 3.2 assists, and, 6.6 rebounds in 35 games for the Ducks. While effecting 44.4 percent of his shots from the field, Brown struggled from behind the arc in college shooting only 29.1 percent from downtown. In order for Brown to become a serious contender for ROY honors, he must improve on his three-point shot.

Despite the lack of playing time he may receive throughout the season, Brown will have an immediate impact when taking the floor in Washington. However, due to the little production made by Brown, it may not be enough to overtake Trae Young and DeAndre Ayton as this year’s top NBA rookie.
