The Washington Wizards moves over the last couple months have raised plenty of eyebrows in regards to what the team is building in D.C.
With one of the most talented young cores in the league, Washington's addition of Trae Young already seemed to be one of the most intriguing moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
The ideal fit of a pass-first guard alongside sophomore standout Alex Sarr alone made the team's bold swing for the former All-Star exciting not only for Sarr's development offensively, but the potential impact Young's arrival would have on other players on the roster.
Fast forward to February, when the team saw the opportunity to make another bold swing to acquire future Hall of Famer Anthony Davis, it seemed to send a league-wide notice to every team that Washington viewed next season as a realistic goal to return to contention in the East.
A duo of Young and Sarr turned heads, but a pairing of Young and Davis was one that nearly every team in the league would covet.
And while there's plenty of expectations for what the future holds for Young and AD, it seems that the team's newest big man has his sights focused on just how lethal a defensive pairing of him and Sarr could be.
Anthony Davis puts league on notice
In a recent interview discussing his new fit in Washington, Davis didn't hold back about what excites him for this fresh start in the DMV.
When discussing the potential of the team's new look frontcourt, the former No. 1 overall pick took no time to share what stands out him about Alex Sarr's game:
“On the defensive end, it’s gonna be insane, right?” Davis said. “Being able to guard the pick-and-roll, switch on guards, and protect the rim—I think he’s second in the league in blocks right now. And he’s young. He’s only going to get better. All the guys that helped me, I hope, can carry over to helping him.”
The fact that Davis seems open to mentoring Sarr should already be music to the Wizards' ears, but the reality that the two could pose a legit nightmare to opposing teams is only another reason to be excited.
Washington has the chance to continue to add to their roster this offseason and with the right moves, it wouldn't be a shock to see the Wizards be a legitimate sleeper next season.
