Cam Whitmore's one of the most talented young players in the NBA and he hasn't gotten a fair chance to prove that.

Entering the league, the Villanova product was viewed as a lottery projected talent before a foot injury caused the versatile forward's draft stock to plummet.

Whitmore has every tool necessary to be one of the most elite wings in the league, but he's yet to be given the opportunity to prove that.

Like every young player, the forward has dealt with growing pains through the start of his career.

As a raw talent, the only way to overcome those growing pains is to play through them.

The best players in the league deals with growing pains.

Both Boston Celtics' stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown did, Brandon Ingram and even Scottie Barnes to name a few,

All premiere wings in the league, who were given the opportunity to play through their struggles unlike Whitmore.

With the Houston Rockets, Whitmore's mistakes cost him playing time and his inconsistencies resulted in Ime Udoka and general manager Rafael Stone giving up on his potential.

However, one team's misfortune is another team's treasure, which proves true for the Washington Wizards who now have taken the swing on the upside the Maryland native possesses.

Landing Whitmore in one of the most overlooked moves of the offseason could be the one slept on acquisition that changes everything for the Wizards future.

Washington has desperately been seeklng a star presence in the frontcourt dating back to before the John Wall and Bradley Beal glory days.

The Wizards hoped that Kelly Oubre Jr. could be that player.

Their patience grew thin with Deni Advija's development, which cost them another swing and miss on potential

Now, Washington sits and waits hoping that one of Kyshawn George, Bilal Coulibaly or Whitmore can emerge as a two-way star to build towards the future alongside Alex Sarr.

George has breakout potential of his own, but that's a conversation for another time.

As does Coulibaly, but entering his third season, Washington's patience will run thin soon if he doesn't show progress in year three.

That leaves Whitmore, who we all know is one of the most explosive scorers in the league when the ball is in his hand.

Whitmore's athleticism, downhill ability and improving jumper make him a dynamic playmaker. Not to mention the flashes of defensive versatility he's shown.

And if he's able to improve the one weakness of his game as a facilitator, Whitmore has everything needed to not only emerge as a star for himself, but be the building block the Wizards have desperately been searching for.
