The Anthony Davis era with the Washington Wizards hasn't come to an official start yet, and based on the rumblings around the league, there's no telling if it ever will.
According to NBA Insider Chris Haynes, there's a real possibility that Davis is dealt ahead of next season, and for a fanbase who dreamed about the potential of an AD and Trae Young duo, their biggest fears could be coming true.
Not to mention, the idea of Alex Sarr being mentored by the two-way star was a major selling point for the Wizards to land the big man.
Fast forward to now, though, and it feels like Washington's plans to pencil Davis into what they're building in D.C. may be altered, especially considering the recent comments from the big man.
Chris Haynes suggests Anthony Davis could be traded this offseason
In a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Haynes voiced his thoughts on the possibility of Davis being moved:
“He’s [Davis] at a place right now [in Washington} where he can’t afford to play two years to not compete … I do think there's a good chance that he may end up somewhere else by the time next season starts."
Considering insiders are beginning to express concerns about AD remaining in the DMV and the big man publicly making some concerning comments about the Wizards' roster, it appears that there are legitimate concerns about whether or not he'll stay put in Washington beyond the offseason.
At the end of the day, general manager Will Dawkins will have the final say on just how long the Kentucky product remains in the nation's capital.
Will Dawkins will make the best decision for the Wizards
Dawkins has made it clear that when the team traded for Davis, it was with the intention that he would be a Wizard.
Washington truly believes that the duo of Young and AD could lead the Wizards back into the mix, but with the short time frame Davis has given the team, it feels as if they've been put on a clock.
Still, the general manager refused to be put on a clock, suggesting they wouldn't be skipping steps any time soon.
Dawkins would like Davis to remain a part of the team, but if he becomes a distraction by making it clear he wants out, it's almost certain the Wizards would field offers to avoid having any conflict to impact what many would consider a great culture.
